How to Create Your Amazon Affiliate Link

Your affiliate link is an Amazon product URL that includes your tag, the code Amazon Associates assigns you when you sign up. You can generate it with the SiteStripe bar on your computer, with Copy Associates Link in the mobile app, or by adding your tag to the product URL by hand. Amazon pays you a commission on qualifying purchases made within 24 hours of the click.

If you already have an Associates account, skip to step 2.

1. Sign up for Amazon Associates

To get your link, you need to register with Amazon Associates, Amazon's affiliate program. You can use your regular Amazon customer account.

  1. Go to Amazon Associates with your Amazon account and complete the registration. On Amazon.co.uk the program is at affiliate-program.amazon.co.uk.
  2. List where you plan to post links: your website, your channel, or your social media. Keep this list up to date at all times from Account Settings › Edit your website list.
  3. When you finish, you will receive your Associates ID ending in -20: that is your tag (for example, yourchannel-20). On Amazon.co.uk it ends in -21. It cannot be changed later.

From the moment you submit the application, you have 180 days to make three qualifying sales (your own purchases do not count). Amazon will review your account once you reach those three sales; if the deadline passes without them, it may withdraw the application, though you can apply again later.

If you post on Telegram

Amazon requires you to include every channel or page where you share their links in your website list. Its official list of social networks accepted for review includes Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, and Twitch, but does not name Telegram, so the final decision is up to the Amazon reviewer.

Even so, plenty of deal channels have been using Telegram for years without issues. To avoid problems, add the full address of your channel (https://t.me/your_channel) to your website list and make sure every deal complies with Amazon's rules.

2. Find your tag and your tracking IDs

Your tag is the code that identifies your sales: it is included in every link so Amazon knows who to pay the commission to. On Amazon.com it always ends in -20 (on Amazon.co.uk, in -21).

A tracking ID is a secondary tag under the same account. Associates Central lets you create up to 100 of them from Manage your Tracking ID, helping you measure the performance of each website or channel separately (for example, yourchannel-20 for one and yourchannel-1-20 for another). All commissions are paid into the same account.

Both your main tag and your tracking IDs appear when you generate any link, whether with SiteStripe or from the Amazon app, so you can choose which one to apply.

3. Create the link on your computer with SiteStripe

SiteStripe is the toolbar that appears on Amazon pages when you sign in with your Associates account.

  1. Go to your Amazon store and sign in with that account. Check the top of the page to confirm you are on that account; if not, switch accounts from there.
  2. Go to the page of the product you want to recommend.
  3. In the SiteStripe bar, press Get Link: Text.
  4. Choose between the short or long link, and select your tracking ID if you have several. Then copy the link.

Amazon's official short link already includes your tag. The bar also offers options with an image, but to post in a channel or on a social network the text link is all you need. Remember that you must be on the specific product page to create the link.

4. Create the link from your phone

On your phone you do not need SiteStripe: Amazon's shopping app includes a specific feature for affiliates.

  1. Open the Amazon app and sign in with your Associates account.
  2. Go to the product page and press the Share button.
  3. Choose Copy Associates Link. If you use several tracking IDs, you will see the list right above it to pick the right one before copying.

This option appears automatically on both iPhone and Android as soon as it detects your Associates account. It is only available on product pages and does not work with e-books, Audible, digital magazines, digital music, or luxury stores.

5. Create the link by hand

If you already have a product's address, you can add your tag to it manually following Amazon's official structure:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/ASIN/ref=nosim?tag=yourchannel-20

The ASIN is the product identifier that appears in the URL right after /dp/. Just replace yourchannel-20 with your tag or the tracking ID you plan to use.

If you want to check that a link built by hand is correct, use the Link Checker in Associates Central. Keep in mind that this tool only works for manually created links; it does not work properly with the ones you copy from SiteStripe.

6. Check that the link works

  1. Open the link in an incognito window or in a different browser: it should take you to the product page.
  2. If the tag is not visible in the address bar after the page loads, don't worry: Amazon records the session anyway.
  3. Clicks and orders show up in your Associates Central reports. Orders are processed every hour and almost all of them appear within three hours.

Do not make test purchases through your own link: Amazon's rules explicitly prohibit it.

How long a click counts

When a user visits Amazon through your link, you have a 24-hour window: you earn a commission on any eligible product they add to their cart in that period. If they complete the purchase later, the commission remains valid as long as the product stays in the cart, up to a maximum of 89 days after the click.

That 24-hour window closes if the buyer places an order or visits Amazon through another affiliate's link. If they click one of your links again later, a new 24-hour period opens.

Amazon's rules for your links

Breaking the program's rules can lead to the closure of your account. These are the key points you must follow:

  • Post only where you have declared: share links only on the pages or channels included in your official list.
  • Identify yourself as an affiliate: include the official statement in a visible place: "As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases." On social media it must be linked to your account, and in a Telegram channel the description is the right place.
  • Mark every link as advertising: indicate next to each link that it is promotional content with phrases such as "(paid link)", "#ad" or "#CommissionsEarned", as Amazon recommends.
  • Make it clear the link goes to Amazon: Amazon's rules prohibit using shorteners or buttons that hide that the link leads to its site. If the accompanying text says so, for example by naming the store, the destination is clear. SiteStripe's short link is from Amazon itself.
  • Private messages and emails, only to those who ask for them: you may send your links by email, SMS or direct message only if the recipient has requested it beforehand.
  • Nothing offline: their use is prohibited in printed materials, e-books or postal mail.

If you post deals showing the price, see the remaining guidelines in the deals channel guide. The official terms can change over time; always check them in the Program Policies (where the commission tables are) and in the Amazon Associates Operating Agreement.

Your tag on every deal, with Codingram

When you run a Telegram channel, generating every link by hand takes too much time, and sharing a product without your tag means giving away the commission. Codingram is a web platform designed to prepare and post deals to Telegram channels from the store link:

  • Set your tag in Settings › Amazon and every Amazon link you post will go out automatically with your code, no matter where you copied it from and without needing the Amazon API.
  • With the Creator and Agency plans, you can set a specific tag or tracking ID for each channel and check in Amazon's reports which sales each channel generates.
  • On new channels, every Amazon deal is posted with the mandatory affiliate statement and the time at which the price was read.

You will find all the details in Stores and affiliation. If you have not created your channel yet, see the deals channel guide to set it up step by step.

Frequently asked questions

It is an Amazon product URL that includes your tag through the tag parameter (?tag=yourchannel-20). You do not have a single link: you generate one for every product you want to post, whether with SiteStripe, with the Amazon app, or by building it by hand.

How do I find my Amazon Associates tag?

It appears every time you generate a link with SiteStripe or from the Amazon app, next to the tracking IDs you have created in Manage your Tracking ID within Associates Central. On Amazon.com it always ends in -20 (on Amazon.co.uk, in -21).

Can I create the affiliate link from my phone?

Yes, straight from the Amazon app: sign in with your Associates account, open the product page, tap Share and press Copy Associates Link. It works on both iPhone and Android.

Why don't I see the SiteStripe bar?

The most common reason is being signed in to Amazon with an account other than your Associates one: check the name in the header and switch accounts. If you are signed in with the correct account, check that the bar is not turned off in the Associates Central settings, under Associates SiteStripe Options.

Yes, as long as it is clear that it leads to Amazon. Amazon's rules prohibit using shorteners if they hide where the link goes. It is enough if the accompanying text says so, for example by naming the store. The short link SiteStripe gives you is already from Amazon itself.

Does it count if I buy through my own link?

No. Amazon's rules prohibit buying through your affiliate links, whether the order is for you or someone else. Those purchases also do not count toward the three required initial sales.

Yes, and plenty of deal channels have been doing it for years. The main condition is to register your channel's URL in your website list and follow the program's policies. Since Telegram is not on Amazon's official list of social networks, the decision is subject to the review of your account. We explain all the details in If you post on Telegram.

How much do you earn with an Amazon affiliate link?

The commission rate depends on the product category, as outlined in the Program Policies. You also earn a commission on any eligible product the user adds to their cart within 24 hours of the click, even if it is not the one you originally shared.
